General Overview Performs routine accounting, clerical, and administrative work in maintaining the fiscal records and treasury functions of the City.
Job Description Summary EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Maintain City & Utility Cash:
Count and balance the City Hall cash register on a daily basis.
Balance and record all receipts and disbursements on a daily basis.
Prepare the bank deposits on a daily basis and take them to the bank.
Complete transfers among the City's cash and investment accounts.
Arrange for necessary wire transfers.
Coordinate purchases of certificates of deposits.
Perform department petty cash audits.
Customer Service/Cashiering:
Wait on residents, customers and developers for the collection of general City receipts.
Receipt cash collections from other departments.
Collect and receipt property tax payments.
Assist with Utility customer payments.
Respond to resident phone calls and in person inquiries.
Balance General City and Utility cash, investment, and deposit accounts:
Verify the account balances for all cash and investment accounts.
Analyze and balance other accounts as assigned.
Perform general accounting and finance duties:
Prepare and post journal entries.
Maintain spreadsheets to track Room Tax and Impact Fees.
Assist in the completion of special assessment letters.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Perform other general office duties, as assigned.
Examples of such duties may include:
Sorting and distributing the daily mail.
Answering the telephone and directing calls.
Processing window traffic and responding to customer needs.
Monitor record retention compliance.
Summary of Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Summary:
Working knowledge of modern governmental accounting theory, principles and practices.
Considerable knowledge of internal control procedures and management information systems.
Working knowledge of office automation and computerized financial applications.
Considerable knowledge of budgetary, accounting and reporting systems.
Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment.
Ability to prepare and analyze complex financial reports.
Ability to maintain efficient and effective financial systems and procedures.
Ability to accurately account for City funds with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and City officials.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Additional Information Education and
Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate degree in accounting or a closely related field.
One (1) year of progressively responsible municipal accounting or other accounting experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
